Dining in Mexico
offers a world of flavors
Soliman Bay:
Oscar and
Lalo's - Located on the main high way –
across from Soliman Bay
entrance.
Tankah Bay:
Blue Sky Hotel - open for breakfast,
lunch and dinner. We are often found dinning at Blue Sky's Restaurant
when we stay on Tankah. Ask us and we will tell you more
Casa Cenote - open for breakfast, lunch or dinner -
renown for their Sunday BBQ.

Peublo of Tulum:
Situated about a 10 to 15 minutes from most of our Villas with many
great places to eat !
Lunch - look for the small
open restaurants that have whole chickens on the outdoor barbeque grills
for you to see. They are all yummy! A whole chicken will cost about $60
pesos - and the chicken comes with rice,
coleslaw and tortillas. You can also order a quarter or half chicken.
"El
Mariachi"
- my favorite Mexican cuisine in Tulum (located on the
right hand side of the street as you drive through town directly across
from Mar Caribe Grocery Store) gives you more
food than you can eat it. Very tasty for about $50.00 pesos a person.
Order the dishes on the right hand side of the menu - example "El
Hombre" the dishes that run for 30 to 40 pesos. And don't forget to
go to the buffet table located near the kitchen; bowls of beans, rice,
potatoes (yum yum), salsas, etc. load up your
plate and chow down.
Tulum Beach:
all
beachfront restaurants
Beach
left
- Gringo Dave's, La Vita Bella
Beach
right
- Zama's
Night
Life
- Tulum
Beach "El Mirador" north end at Santa Fe beach - always a fun spot and
great place to go dancing and party it up.
Puerto Aventuras:
Cafe Ole
- open
for breakfast, lunch and dinner - exotic location next to the dolphin
pool. Don't forget to try a slice of the best homemade pie for desert.
Ask about music night, you will experience some great guitar playing.
Akumal:
La Buena
Vida
- dinner and bar beachfront - nice place
Leo's
Pizza
- best lasagna ever - located in the little
Village called Cheymuil (look for the big tall
highway sign - Cheymuil) - between Akumal and Xel-ha - right
hand side going south.
Playa del
Carmen:
Babe's
Noodles and Bar
- between Avenida 5th and 10th on Calle 10 beside the tattoo parlor.
Babes has great curried noodles, when we lived
in Playa we would eat at Babe's about once a week.
Java
Joe's
- for coffee, cappuccinos, bagels and fresh subs - on Avenida
5 between Calle 10 and 12. Another place we
would regularly enjoy
Tequila
Barrel
- A great social spot to visit with friends and enjoy snacks - afternoon
and evening fun - a long standing tradition in Playa, awesome place - on Avenida 5 between Calle 10
and 12
Cabalova Sushi Bar - sports bar with
big screen and we all love Bruno - on Avenida 5
between Calle 12 and 14
Media
Luna
- every meal on this menu is yum - a wonderful dinner location - on Avenida 5 between Calle 12
and 14
The
Jaguar
- corner of Avenida 5 and Calle
8
Tipping:
Some restaurants add the tip others don't. Don't be offended if they did
add a tip - why this has happen is that so many people don't. Tip 20 % at
restaurants - don't forget the maids - they work hard. Tip taxi drivers
if taking a long trip, especially if they help with the luggage.
Restaurant
Etiquette:
Don't come in a rush - no one in this country is in a rush and that's
what we love about Mexico.
Take a breath and enjoy the time you have waiting, to really see every
detail that is around you - not just the big picture. Your meal will come
and be wonderful. You will have to ask for the bill - the check ("la
cuenta") as the wait staff believes it is
rude to give a bill before asking - meaning to rush you out the door.
Other Stuff:
Can we hire a cook at our Villa? Cooks are available in some of the
properties - inquire if you are interested in this service.
